The game’s story is inspired by the Chinese proverb of the koi fish that swam upstream for 100 years and was transformed into a dragon as a reward for its perseverance. Set in Japan during the late 18th century, as the Samurai era (Edo period) comes to a close and industrialization begins, the game explores the conflict between nature and the encroaching threat of industry.
As factories and machines emerge, they introduce a new danger to the natural world. Toxic pollutants flow into the rivers, turning animals into savage beasts and mindless killers.
The protagonist, Kaida, is a koi fish preparing to start a family with her mate. However, when their pond becomes tainted by dark pollution from the river, the fish begin to fall ill. To save her family, Kaida must venture into the river and confront the source of the pollution. Along the way, she encounters various creatures who need help, and through these encounters, she gains the knowledge and courage to face the growing threat.
As Kaida progresses, she will unlock new abilities to help her overcome obstacles and defeat enemies.
